Performance Notes | Face the Facts lecture given by Judge J F Rutherford on September 11, 1938 from the Royal Albert Hall in London, England, with other cities tied in by wire. Total attendance was over 150,000. Rutherford was the second president of the Watchtower Society and had named the movement Jehovah's Witnesses in 1931.
"More than 10,000 people jammed into the auditorium for this event which was broadcast by radio. Jehovah's Witnesses marched through the City of London wearing placards advertising the talk. The event itself saw Judge Rutherford give a talk about how the world's populace needed to recognise the serious condition in which the world found itself and warned the democratic peoples of the approaching Catholic-Fascist bid for world control, which would be followed by the Armageddon." ('Jehovah's Witnesses: Their Claims, Doctrinal Changes and Prophetic Speculation', Edmond C Gruss (Xulon Press, 2001))
Judge Rutherford's speech was transmitted by radio and direct line wires to other auditoriums in more than 50 cities in the USA, Canada, Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand and Tasmania, where, all together, more than 150,000 assembled in convention, Simultaneously it was broadcast by a transcontinental chain of 118 US radio stations. It was published in a paphlet called 'Face the Facts - and Learn the Only One Way of Escape' publised in 1938 by the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society. |
