Biography | Flight Lieutenant Matthew Little was born in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire and began his musical career at an early age as a boy chorister and trombonist with Hertfordshire county Youth Orchestra. He went on to study at Trinity College of Music, London graduating in 1992 before joining Royal Air Force Music Services as a bass trombonist and vocalist with the Central Band of the RAF.
During the past 20 years, Flight Lieutenant Little has appeared as a vocal soloist at many engagements with RAF Music Services. These include the Festival of Remembrance, Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, Songs of Praise (BBC) and the Royal Military Tattoo. Flight Lieutenant Little has also featured as a soloist on the RAF Charitable Trust Massed Bands Tour.
Away from the RAF, Flight Lieutenant Little has performed as a session singer in London for many years. Television appearances include the Royal Variety Performance, X Factor and the National Lottery with Capitol Voices. He has also provided vocals for film soundtracks including Cats, Phantom of the Opera, Jesus Christ Superstar and Around the World in 80 Days. In recent years, Flight Lieutenant Little has performed in the John Wilson Proms, as well as on tours of Well Meet Again with Angela Ripon and June Whitfield and White Christmas for Raymond Gubbay. He has recorded albums for Michael Ball, Thats Entertainment, MGM Musicals for John Wilson and has sung with the Lincoln Cathedral choir. He has also conducted various orchestras, including most recently, the Lincolnshire Philharmonic Orchestra.
Flight Lieutenant Little was appointed Director of Music of the Band of the RAF Regiment in August 2008 following completion of Initial Officer Training Course No. 10 at the RAF College, Cranwell, for which he was awarded the MacRoberts Prize. He assumed command of the Band of the RAF College in January 2010. During these tours, he received two Air Officer Commanding Commendations for the Anthems in the Park events, performing with Hayley Westenra in 2010 and Brian May and Kerry Ellis in 2011. Flight Lieutenant Little returned to the Band of the RAF Regiment in January 2012 where memorable performances include conducting in front of India Gate on the Bands recent tour of India as part of the Queens Diamond Jubilee celebrations. |
