| Biography | Roman JablonskiI, belongs to the finest cellists in the world. He was born in Gdansk, in a famous musical family (his father was a composer). After beginning his music education in Gdañsk with Roman Suchecki, he continued at the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire in Moscow with Serghey Shyrynski and after at Yale University School of Music in the United States with Aldo Parisot.
Roman Jablonski took part in many competitions like the Chamber Music Competition in Gdañsk in 1970 first prize , Munich ARD in 1968 Förderungspreis -, Contemporary Music Lodz in 1971 prize for Visions for cello solo by Bernard Pietrzak -, silver medal on the 7th Festival of Young Solists in Bordeaux in 1974, first prize at the G.B. Dealey Music Competition in Dallas in 1972. That prize gave him the opportunity to make his New York début at Carnegie Hall, which made him internationally famous.
Roman Jablonski has had many succesful appearances at major concert halls in Poland, as well as abroad. He appeared as soloist with the best orchestras in the world, as the Berlin Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Orchestra Sinfonica della RAI Roma, Orchestra dell' Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Minnesota Orquestra, Dallas Orquestra, Cleveland Orchestra, all BBC orchestras, the Scottish National Orchestra, and many others.
Besides, he took part in important musical festivals including Edinburgh, Toronto, Rome, Helsinki and Lisbon, as well as the Warsaw Autumn Festival. He made records for many radio stations and record companies, counting over 20 discs.
Roman Jablonski gave a highly acclaimed performance of Witold Lutoslawski's Cello Concerto. He travelled with Witold Lutoslawski for 20 years around the world, performing that piece in concerts and recordings. The piece was pointed as one of the most outstanding pieces of the 20th century. There are many pieces written or dedicated to Roman Jablonski. Many Polish musical celebrities, like Jerzy Waldorff or Jerzy Marchwinski were enthusiastic about Roman Jablonski's talent. Music critics of leading newspapers and journals, such as the New York Times, the Berliner Tagesspiegel or the Daily Telegraph, have lauded his virtuosity and praised his range of excellence.
For 8 years Roman Jablonski took part in a piano quartet, with following members: K.A. Kulka violin, Stefan Kamasa viola, Jerzy Marchwinski piano. Parallel to his performing activity it's the teaching activity carried out in many prestigious music schools and master courses, e.g. at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, the Akademie der Künste in Berlin, the Yale University School of Music, as well as in Norfolk (USA), Perth (Australia), Rheinsberg (Germany) and Glucholazy (Poland).

In the 90's for ten years he was the organizer and director of international summer courses in San Sebastian (Spain). Since many years, Roman Jablonski teaches cello classes at the Conservatory in San Sebastian. Roman Jablonski's repertoire covers many pieces for cello and symphony or chamber orchestra, as well as many recital programmes.
He performed many contemporary composers pieces, who dedicated him their works. The writer Julius Bächi dedicated him an article in his book Berühmte Cellisten.
In 2006 Roman Jablonski got the professor title in Warsaw. |
