| Biography | Sidney Beer was a conductor. He was a founder of the National Symphony Orchestra in 1941which aimed to provide music in war torn London. Most of the members of the orchestra were young musicians serving in the British Army and Royal Air Force and stationed in and around London.
From 1944 until 1947 Decca used the orchestra as their principal recording orchestra. They used London's Kingsway Hall (closed in 1983 and demolished in 1997) both for concerts and recordings. |
