NameCatholic Women's League (CWL); 1906-; International Catholic organisation
Dates1906-
BiographyThe Catholic Women’s League was founded in 1906 by Margaret Fletcher. The League encourages its members to work both in the parish and in the wider community. Members are also concerned with issues on a national and international level. To help keep members up to date on events the Social Awareness Team regularly reports at meetings and in CWL NEWS.

The Social Awareness Team ensures members’ voices are heard in important social matters, particularly where the Bishops call for the support of the laity. CWL Officers keep members informed on Health Concerns, on Justice and Peace Issues, on Parliamentary Matters, in Ecumenism and on issues affecting the marginalised in society at home and on the international scene, through membership of the World Union of Catholic Women’s Organisations.

At home, the League works closely with The National Board of Catholic Women in promoting the presence, participation and responsibilities of Catholic women in the Church and in society.
