Biography | Born in Edinburgh, the son of an architect, Miller was educated at George Heriot's School. With his brothers, Miller founded the Edinburgh-based housebuilders James Miller & Partners Ltd. in 1934. He was elected to the Edinburgh Town Council in 1936, becoming City Treasurer in 1947 and Lord Provost (1951-54), during which time he was knighted. He was appointed Lord Mayor of London in 1964. |
