| Biography | The German mezzo-soprano, Bettina Denner-Brückner, received an early musical education, since both her parents were church musicians. So, at 12 years old , she studied violin at the Musikschule of Erfurt, and in 1978 began singing studies at the Musikhochschule of Leipzig, where she was primarily a student of Hermann Christian Polster. She was a prize-winner at several singing competitions, such as the International Bach Competition (1984) and the National Opera Singers Competition of the German Democratic Republic (1985).
Since 1983, Bettina Denner was intern with the ensemble of the Leipzig Opera House, where she sang roles such as Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Carlotta in Schweigsamen Frau by R. Strauss and Nicklaus in Hoffmanns Erzählungen. In 1985 she became a soloist at the Leipzig Opera House under a firm angagement, and since 1987 she had a guest engagement with the Staatsoper Berlin. In 1987, she sang Cherubino in The Marriage of Figaro, a role she also performed in a tour to Japan of the Berlin Opera in 1987. From her repertoire for the stage should be noted Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro, Dorabella in Cosi fan tutte, Idamante in Idomeneo by Mozart, Carmen, Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel, Orlowsky in Fledermaus, Magdalene in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Charlotte in Werther by Massenet, the landlady in Boris Godunow (Leipzig 1993), Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream by Benjamin Britten and Boulotte in Offenbachs operetta Ritter Blaubart.
Bettina Denner performed extensively as a concert and oratorio singer in a wide repertoire, especially in the concerts in the Thomaskirche and the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, She has worked together with leading conductors, such as Kurt Masur, Hans-Joachim Rotzsch, and Suitner.
