Biography | Iso Elinson born in Russia in 1907 was taught first of all by his mother (who herself had studied with Anton Rubinstein) then by Felix Blumenfeld (1863-1931) in St Petersburg. Blumenfeld's other students included Horowitz, Barere, Harry Neuhaus, Maria Grinberg. Elinson married the pianist Hedwig Stein, emigrated to England where he made his début in 1936. For twenty years from 1944 Elinson was a professor at the Royal Manchester College of Music, numbering among his pupils such eminent musician-pianist-composers as John Ogdon, Ronald Stevenson and David Wilde.
Elinson combined his teaching with concert work, appearing in six BBC Promenade Concerts, in numerous recitals throughout Britain and the Continent. He died in 1964.
