Biography | Formed by 12 men from Tynewydd Road Congregational Church in 1902, Barry Dock Glee Party soon became known as Barry Male Voice Choir. In 1903, with 30 choristers the Barry Male Voice Choir won its inaugural first prize (of £6) in the Sunday School Union Eisteddfod at Wood Street Congregational Church, Cardiff. Over the intervening 113 years since its inception, Barry male Voice Choir has survived 2 world wars and wholesale changes in the way we live our lives but it still lives up to its original aims of providing a male choral presence in the Barry area, entertaining those people who enjoy listening to this form of music and supporting other local charitable bodies wherever it can. Today the choir has increased in numbers from previous times, and continues to encourage any man who can sing and is willing to learn, to come and sample the unrivalled enjoyment and camaraderie that membership of a of a male voice choir brings. |
