BiographyIn 1933, Avril Colerdige-Taylor established the 'Coleridge-Taylor orchestra', with the purpose of providing work to the many out of work musicians with the advent of 'Talkies'. They had several successful appearances at the Royal Albert Hall and the Wigmore Hall, London and were also the subject of a film by Gaumont-British pictures. In 1941, Avril had the idea of establishing a Symphony orchestra in memory of her father, Samuel Coleridge -Taylor.
In 1948, the orchestra was established on a permanent basis , and in April 1948, made its first Albert Hall appearance in Hiawatha.
