Biography | The Primrose League was founded on the 17th November, 1883,by Lord Randolph Churchill, Sir Henry Drummond Wolff, Sir Alfred Salde and Sir John Gorst, who had met together at the Carlton Club, London and propounded a scheme by means of which new life might be infused into the Conservative Case. It was resolved that a new political organisation under the style and title of the Primrose League should be founded. The motto of the league was ''Imperium et Libertas' , taken form a speech made by Lord Beaconsfield in 1879. By 1935, the League had 5,637 members around the UK. |
