BiographyDavid Angus is a conductor. As a child, he was a boy chorister at King's College Choir Cambridge, under Sir David Willcocks, and he read music at Surrey University where he specialised as a pianist and obtained his Bachelor of Music degree with Honors in Music Performance, General (1973-1976).

He obtained his PGCE degree in Music and Mathematics from University of Surrey (1976-1977); and his Postgraduate Conducting Diploma, Conducting Opera and Orchestras, repetiteur training Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester (1984-1986). He finished his training with a Fellowship in Conducting at the RNCM (1985-1987), where he won several prizes for his opera conducting (1984-1986).

His professional career began as a repetiteur with Opera North (UK), before becoming Chorus Master and Staff Conductor for Glyndebourne Festival Opera (1988-1996). At Glyndebourne he conducted many operas many productions (Katya Kabanova, W.A. Mozart's Così fan tutte, Eugene Onegin, and Tippett's New Year) as well as concerts (Verdi's Requiem, George Frideric Handel's Messiah)., both in the Festival and on tour. David Angus’ operatic career then took him to Italy, where he conducted several productions and concerts in Turin, Milan, Bologna and Modena (Benjamin Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream, Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel & Gretel, Boris Godunov, The Turn of the Screw, and many concerts)).

David Angus conducts the London Philharmonic Orchestra, both in concert and in the recording studio, and has given many concerts all over the country with the London Mozart Players. He has conducted most of the major orchestras in the country, including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Hallé Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Northern Sinfonia.

David Angus broadcasts frequently on BBC Radio 3 and abroad, in Austria, Ireland, Holland, Denmark, Italy, and particularly on Klara, the Belgian Classical Music channel. He conducts orchestras and choirs all over Europe, particularly in Scandinavia where he has been a regular guest with the Lahti Symphony Orchestra and several Danish orchestras. In North America he has appeared with the Utah Symphony Orchestra, San Antonio Symphony and Calgary Philharmonic.

In September 2001, David Angus became Chief Conductor of the Symphony Orchestra Of Flanders where he helped establish it as the most exciting and successful freelance orchestra in Belgium. His ambitious programming and high energy performances led to sellout audiences in Bruges, Ghent, Antwerp, and Brussels, and a strong following on Klara, the national classical radio station of Belgium. He remains the Honorary Conductor of this orchestra.
