BiographyThe flautist Michael Cox studied in London at the Royal College of Music, where he was awarded all the major prizes for his instrument. Scholarships from the Countess of Munster Trust enabled him to pursue further studies with Sebastian Bell and Susan Milan. His early successes include triumph as BBC Young Musician of the Year, as well as awards in many national and international competitions.

As a soloist, he is a regular performer at the principal London venues and has played with many of the major British orchestras including the Philharmonia, Welsh National Opera, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the London Mozart Players. He is currently principal flute with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. He is well-known for his appearances in chamber music and he has appeared as guest soloist with many well-known British groups including the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and the Chilingirian Quartet. His busy schedule also includes regular recitals and concerts throughout Europe as well as radio and television performances in Africa and America. He is Professor of Flute at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
