Biography | Yuri Ivanovich Simonov (born March 4, 1941 in Saratov, Soviet Union) is a Russian conductor. He studied at the Leningrad Conservatory under Nikolai Rabinovich. He is currently director of the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, where his witty and virtuosic technique has captured wide attention. In 1991, Yuri Simonov conducted the requiem by Benjamin Britten in the Cathedral of Marseille with young Conductor Didier Lucchesi. |
