BiographyBorn in Aachen, the tenor Burkhard Ulrich studied piano, organ and singing at the Cologne Musikhochschule and the Mozarteum in Salzburg. After engagements at theatres in Koblenz and Kiel, his career took him to the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where since 2001 his rôles have included Mime (Das Rheingold, Siegfried), Loge (Das Rheingold), Shouysky (Boris Godunov), Valzacchi (Der Rosenkavalier), Goro (Madama Butterfly), Don Basilio (Le nozze di Figaro) and Monostatos (Die Zauberflöte). He has collaborated with such renowned conductors as Sir Simon Rattle, Riccardo Muti, Christian Thielemann, Ingo Metzmacher, Marc Minkowski and Lothar Zagrosek. Guest engagements have taken him to the Salzburg Festival, the Opéra National de Paris, the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, the Bregenz Festival, the Ruhr Triennale, the Arts Centre Seoul and many other opera houses.
