| Biography | Born in Saguenay, Canadian coloratura soprano Marie-Eve Munger is already enjoying a florishing international career.
Engagements this season include the title role in Lakmé at the Opéra-Théâtre de St-Étienne, her company debut at Teatro alla Scala and at the Aix-en-Provence Festival as the Vierte Magd in a new production of Elektra by Patrice Chéreau. Active on the symphonic scene, she is the featured soloist at the New Years Eve Gala in Innsbruck, Austria, and at the Grand Gala concert of the Regina Symphony.
Upcoming engagements include her debut at the Opéra-Comique in Paris as Isabelle in Le Pré au Clercs by Hérold, at the Wexford Festival as Rosa in Don Bucefalo by Cagnoni and as the Fire\Princess\Nightingale in LEnfant et les Sortilèges by Ravel with the Chicago Symphony under the baton of Esa-Pekka Salonen. Marie-Eves first solo recording will also be released next season, and she will present several recitals and concerts in Canada.
After winning the first prize at the Marmande International Voice Competition, Marie-Eve Munger made her debut in France at the Théâtre du Châtelet, Opéra de Metz and Opéra de Tours, and in America as an apprentice with Glimmerglass Opera. She has, since then, sang Ophélie in Hamlet with Minnesota Opera, Gilda in Rigoletto with Opera Saratoga, Juliette in Roméo et Juliette with Intermountain Opera Bozeman, the Fire/Nightingale in LEnfant et les Sortilèges with the Aix-en-Provence Festival on tour in Morocco, Nannetta in Falstaff at the Opéra-Théâtre de Metz, Ilia in Idomeneo with the Florentine Opera, Costanza in Mozarts Il Sogno di Scipione with Gotham Chamber Opera in New York City and Maria in Magdalena by Villa-Lobos at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, among others.
On the concert stage, she sang with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic and Choir, made her debut at the Kennedy Center in Mozarts Great Mass in C minor with The Wash
Equally at home in new music, she premiered the role of The Coloratura in the award-winning contemporary opera The Second Woman by Frédéric Verrières presented at the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord in Paris and on tour in Europe. She also performed a piece for soprano, chamber orchestra and water drops by Mauro Lanza at the Musica Festival in Strasbourg and created two roles in Gérard Pessons opera Pastorale at the Théâtre du Châtelet.
Awarded the Wirth Scholarship, she earned the degree of Master of Music in performance at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University in Montreal in 2007. Winner of the Choquette-Symcox Prize, Marie-Eve Munger thanks the Fondation des Jeunesses Musicales du Canada for their support. |
