Biography | Ian Balmain was a trumpet player and principal trumpet with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
He studied at the Royal College of Music during which he was chosen to perform the specially commissioned Malcolm Arnold trumpet concerto, for a televised concert, to celebrate the Royal College of Music centenary.
In 1984 Ian joined the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and in 1990 became their principal trumpet and recorded Haydns trumpet concerto in that same year. In 1997 Ian was invited to be principal trumpet with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. |
