BiographyBrenden Patrick Gunnell is an up-and-coming “jugendlicher Heldentenor”. This season Brenden Patrick Gunnell will be singing the role of Jenik in THE BARTERED BRIDE at Opera North in Leeds, the title role of PETER GRIMES at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, and Laça in JENUFA at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna. At the Glyndebourne Festival in summer of 2015 he will be debuting the role of Pedrillio in Mozart's ABDUCTION FROM THE SERAGLIO in a new production by David McVicar. For the Stuttgart Musikfest, Brenden will sing the title role in a concert version of Mozart's IDOMENEO with the International Bach Akademie.
In the season 2013/2014 Brenden Patrick Gunnell sang the role of Tom Rakewell in THE RAKES PROGRESS at the Theater Regensburg, Steuermann in a concert performance of THE FLYING DUTCHMAN with the Oslo Philharmonic, the title role in THE DREAM OF GERONTIUS with the Staatskapelle Halle in the Bremen Glocke, the tenor soloist in Mahlers 8th Symphony with the Orchestra La Verdi Milano under the baton of Riccardo Chailliy, and the role of Jimmy Mahoney in THE RISE AND FALL OF THE CITY OF MAHAGONNY for Theater Hof.
Following his tremendous success of 2012 in the title role of THE DREAM OF GERONTIUS, the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra invited him to return to sing the role of the Königssohn in KÖNIGSKINDER under the baton of Jeffrey Tate. He gave his London debut as Peter Quint in THE TURN OF THE SCREW at the Opera Holland Park. At the Richard Strauss Festival in Garmisch Partenkirchen, he sang a LIEDERABEND with pianist Wolfram Rieger with works of Britten, Mahler and Strauss.
On CD, Brenden Patrick Gunnell recently appeared in the Complete Songs for Voice and Piano of Richard Strauss, singing 32 songs including Krämerspiegel, Cäcilie and Heimliche Aufforderung, and accompanied my Malcolm Martineau on the Two Pianists Label.

Born in 1983 and raised in Michigan, USA he received his Diploma from the Curtis Institute of Music in 2006 (director: Mikael Eliasen) and studied with Joan Patenaude-Yarnell. In Europe he continued his study with KS Brigitte Fassbaender and since 2012 he is a student of Heroic Tenor Robert Gambill.
