BiographyBaritone Björn Bürger has been a member of the ensemble at Oper Frankfurt since 2013. In 2012, he won first prize in the Bundeswettbewerb Gesang Berlin, as well as first prizes in the Emmerich-Smola Competition and the Anneliese-Rothenberger Competition.

In 2015, Björn Bürger made his debut at the Opéra national de Paris in Robert Carsen’s production of Die Zauberflöte as Papageno and as the title role in Don Giovanni at the Norwegian National Opera in Oslo. This season, he will debut as Figaro in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Glyndebourne Festival and as Dr. Falke in Strauߒ Die Fledermaus at the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich.

His credits at Oper Frankfurt include Harlekin in Ariadne auf Naxos, Bengtson in Die Gespenstersonate, Astolfo in Orlando Furioso, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, Masetto in Don Giovanni, Conte Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, Frank and Fritz in Die tote Stadt, Don Bucefalo in Le cantatrici villane, Dandini in La Cenerentola, and the title role in Britten’s Owen Wingrave. During Oper Frankfurt’s 2016-2017 season, he will sing Plumkett in Friedrich von Flotow’s Martha, Schaunard in La Boheme, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, as well as Pelléas in Pelléas et Mélisande and will return to Glyndebourne Festival as Harlekin in Ariadne auf Naxos.

During his studies at the Frankfurt State Conservatory with Prof. Hedwig Fassbender, he debuted at the Grand Théâtre de Genève in Verdi’s Macbeth in a production directed by Christoph Loy and conducted by Ingo Metzmacher. In the world premiere of Richard Wagner’s Eine Kapitulation at the Festival of Young Artists in Bayreuth, he sang the main role of Victor Hugo. In addition, he sang Argante in Händel’s Rinaldo at the Händel Festival in Karlsruhe.
