Biography | A trained violinist, the Austrian musician Christa Schönfeldinger discovered the melodious world of the glass harmonica in the 1990s, with her husband Gerald. Together they decided to create a duo exclusively based around this instrument - the Wiener Glassharmonika Duo. Since then, Christa Schönfeldinger has made a name for herself as a real glass harmonica virtuoso, developing a modern way of playing that is in keeping with contemporary musical aesthetics. Her repertoire ranges from glass harmonica works from the classical period (Mozart, Reichardt, Schulz) and arrangements of orchestral and lyrical works (Hasse, Donizetti, Saint-Saëns, Strauss) to contemporary music. In 2007, she created Jörg Widmann's Armonica, accompanied by the Wiener Philharmoniker and conducted by Pierre Boulez. She makes regular guest appearances with renowned chamber orchestras and musicians, performing in venues such as the Vienna Musikverein, the Warsaw Philharmonic and the Suntory Hall in Tokyo. |
