BiographyMezzo-soprano Anna Harvey will be a Welsh National Opera Associate Artist during Summer and Autumn 2017 and is the recipient of The Chris Ball Bursary. A graduate of the University of Cambridge and the Royal Academy of Music, Anna studied on the Opera Course under Elizabeth Ritchie and Iain Ledingham, was a RAM/Kohn Foundation Bach Cantata Scholar and a member of Song Circle, and graduated with the Alumni Development Award for a singularly distinguished studentship.

In the 2015/2016 season, engagements included La Grosse Dame Les mamelles de Tirésias (Dutch National Opera), Bradamante Alcina (Longborough Festival Opera), Cherubino Le nozze di Figaro (Longborough Festival Opera/cover Welsh National Opera), cover Serafin Figaro Gets a Divorce (Welsh National Opera), Handel Messiah at the Royal Festival Hall and the Cadogan Hall, Haydn Nelson Mass and Paukenmesse with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Vivaldi La Senna Festeggiante at the Spitalfields Festival with The English Concert under Harry Bicket, Mozart Requiem with Gabrieli at the Gstaad and Beaune Festivals, and Bach B Minor Mass with the Royal Northern Sinfonia under Paul McCreesh.

The 2016/2017 season sees debuts at the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar (Zulma L’Italiana in Algeri, Zweite Dame Die Zauberflöte, Groom/Theatregardrobiere/Gymnasiast Lulu, Kay Die Schneekönigin), Landertheater Altenburg Gera (Mayor’s Wife Jenufa, Gold) and Theater Nordhausen (Page Salome) and a return to Welsh National Opera (cover Octavian Der Rosenkavalier and Prince Orlofsky Die Fledermaus), as well as concert performances with La Nuova Musica and the Royal Choral Society and a recording for Hyperion with Archangelo. A particular highlight is performing at the Last Night of the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, with the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Sakari Oramo, in Vaughan Williams Serenade to Music.

In previous seasons, Anna has performed under conductors including Nicholas Cleobury, Jane Glover and Masaaki Suzuki at Lincoln Center, New York, with opera companies and orchestras including Birmingham Opera Company, West Green Opera, Te^te a` Te^te, Garsington Opera , BBC Concert Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, London Mozart Players, English Chamber Orchestra and the Hallé at Bridgewater Hall. A keen exponent of song repertoire, Anna has performed recitals at the Holywell Music Room, Kettle’s Yard Cambridge and Wigmore Hall.

Anna is the recipient of numerous prizes, including the 2015 London Bach Society Bach Singers Prize, the English and Russian Song Prizes and the Dame Kiri Te Kanawa Scholarship at the Royal Academy of Music, and a 2014 Leonard Ingrams Foundation Award from Garsington Opera.
