Biography | Janet Hamilton-Smith spent the years from 1935 to 1943 as a member of the Sadler's Wells company, where she appeared mainly in light lyric roles such as Rosina (Barber of Seville), Adele (Die Fledermaus), Musetta (La Bohème), Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi), Marzelline (Fidelio), Nedda (Pagliacci), Polly Peachum (The Beggar's Opera) and Susanna (Marriage of Figaro). She also sang some heavier roles such as Violetta (La Traviata) and Marguerite in Faust. From 1946 she spent two years in the West End run of Song of Norway. |
