BiographyBorin in Texas in 1869 Marta Cunningham studied singing in Paris and made her professional debut in London in 1901. She toured several times with musicians including the composer and conductor Rafael Kubelik. From 1907-1909 she toured her native USA and eventually established a long-running concert matinee series at the hotel Claridges. Cunningham was involved with the American Musical Allianace which aimed to create the first national American conservatoire. In 1919 struck by the quantity of ex-servicemen in hospitals from injuries sustained during the First World War she set up the charity, Not Forgotten, to care for the needs of injured veterans. Not Forgotten laid on concerts for ex-servicemen and even held a garden party at Buckingham Palace hosted by the Prince of Wales, a tradition that continues today. The Not Forgotten Association continues to provide help today.
