BiographyPercy Bates was an Australian tenor. He was appointed principal tenor of St Mary's Cathedral Choir, and later tenor at St Mark's church, St John's Wood, London. He toured England from 1903 to 1909.

At Lurline Bay, he hand-carved a channel (30ft x 5ft x 5ft) in the 1920s, to prove that you could make electricity by harnessing wave energy. Although thought of as eccentric at the time, he succeeded in producing enough electricity to light his work shed and power several radiators.
