BiographyAfter studying at Cambridge University, where he was Organ Scholar of Clare College, he won a scholarship to study singing at the Cologne College of Music. He has sung principal roles in opera (ENO, Handel Opera Society, Opera North, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Opera Factory London), oratorio and recital in many countries. He has recorded several solo recitals of Lieder with Erik Levi for BBC Radio 3, as well as programmes of contemporary music. For 10 years he was a full-time member of the BBC Singers, where he specialised amongst other things in contemporary music. He sang bass for the Gesualdo Consort of London for many years and took part in Werner Herzog’s 1995 documentary film about Gesualdo, ‘Death for Five Voices’.
