BiographyBorn in Yorkshire, Andrew Greenwood read music at Clare College, Cambridge, before joining the music staff at ROH. Subsequently appointed Chorus Master at WNO, until 1990, where he conducted Don Giovanni, Carmen, Tosca, Rigoletto, Otello, The Trojans, Fidelio, Salome, Der Rosenkavalier. In 1990 he made his ENO debut with The Magic Flute, and has since conducted Madam Butterfly, Don Giovanni, Don Pasquale. He was Music Director of English Touring Opera from 1995 until 2002, where successful productions included Daughter of the Regiment, Fidelio, Macbeth, Manon and The Rake’s Progress. International engagements include First Conductor at Oper der Stadt, Köln and a highly successful period with Royal Danish Opera. He has conducted many of Britain’s major symphony orchestras and is a frequent broadcaster for the BBC with BBC National Orchestra of Wales and BBC Concert Orchestra.

Recent engagements include Albert Herring (New National Theatre, Tokyo); Roberto Devereux, Der Wildsch?tz, La Perichole, Maria Padilla, The Merry Wives of Windsor, Lucrezia Borgia, Luisa Miller, Maria di Rohan, Mignon (Buxton Festival, where he was Artistic Director 2006-2011); Aida (Raymond Gubbay at the Royal Albert Hall); Carmina Burana (Royal Albert Hall); opera galas in Manchester, Glasgow, Birmingham, London; concerts with Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra; Iphigénie en Tauride, Salome, La bohème, La traviata and Die Fledermaus (WNO).
