Biography | The Fleet Singers began in September 2008 when the Barts Choir decided to sponsor a local community choir. The South End Green locality was approached because the Musical Director of the Barts Choir, Ivor Setterfield, had conducted at two concerts arranged locally by the South End Green Association. The first objective was for the choir to participate with the Barts Choir in Carmina Burana at the Albert Hall in mid-November.
The choir was to be completely open to anyone regardless of ability to read music or otherwise. There were nine rehearsals before the big night. The initiative was funded by the Barts Choir, subscriptions from Fleet members and a grant from Camden Council.
Subsequently the Fleet Singers, together with the Barts Chamber Choir and Fleet School, who were also involved in Carmina Burana, put on a local Christmas concert in December. A strong link has been established between the Fleet Singers and Fleet School. |
