Biography | Fridtjof Nansen was born in Norway on 10 October 1861, and grew up in Froen on the outskirts of Christiania (now Oslo). He became famous in the 1880s and 90s for his exploration of the Arctic, which he described in many books which he often illustrated himself. In addition to his polar exploration he was a scientist, diplomat, humanist, and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. |
