Biography | After graduating from the University of Essex with an Honours degree in music, Sheffield-born Deborah was offered a scholarship at the Royal College of Music. There she studied with Margaret Cable and was the recipient of several prizes including the Ted Moss lieder prize.
Deborah made her professional debut in 2000 as Maria in West Side Story at La Scala, Milan, and the Ljubljana Festival. In 2001 she made her debut at Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, singing Chloe in The Queen of Spades. Other roles include both Mimi and Musetta in separate productions of La Boheme for Welsh National Opera, Alcibiades La Liberta Contenta by Agostino Steffani at the Barber Institute, Birmingham, and Aminta Il Re Pastore for The Classical Opera Company. 2006 saw Deborah play Juanita in Opera North's production of Weill's Arms and the Cow.
Concert performances include Naiad in Ariadne auf Naxos with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Simon Rattle, opera galas at Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow and Bridgewater Hall, Manchester, a Gilbert & Sullivan Gala with the Ulster Orchestra, and a concert tour of Wales with the Orchestra of the Welsh National Opera.
She has taken many leading roles with the Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company including playing Princess Zara in the third ever professional production of Utopia Limited at Buxton Opera House in August 2011. During the last Autumn Deborah appeared at the Leeds Lieder Festival and was also engaged in the Music Festivals at Sea upon P&O's MV Aurora.
Deborah works extensively with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and with Raymond Gubbay and is a seasoned performer at numerous outdoor events during the summer. Notable oratorio performances include Verdi Requiem, Carmina Burana at the Royal Albert Hall and Symphony Hall, Birmingham, The Messiah at the Bridgewater Hall, Sea Symphony with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Rutter Magnificat with the composer.
Recent events have included a performance of Vaughan Williams' Sea Symphony with the RLPO and Last Night of the Winter Proms concerts over the New Year with Raymond Gubbay.
Recordings include Vivaldi Gloria, Magnificat and Dixit Dominus for EMI Classics, and one of the popular 'Here Come The Classics' series with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. |
