Biography | Bass David Soar was born in Nottinghamshire and studied at the Royal Academy of Music and the National Opera Studio.
In the 2014-15 season David sings Pistola in a new production of Falstaff at the Saito Kinen Festival conducted by Fabio Luisi and he returns to the Glyndebourne Festival as Zuniga in Carmen and to the Metropolitan Opera as Colline in La bohème. Further ahead, he returns to the Metropolitan Opera, the Glyndebourne Festival and makes his debut at the Teatro Réal in Madrid.
Among his most recent successes is Masetto in Don Giovanni for his debut at the Metropolitan Opera; Le Duc in Roméo et Juliette for his debut at the Salzburg Festival; Quinault in Adriana Lecouvreur for his debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and Masetto, Mr Flint and Collatinus in The Rape of Lucretia at Glyndebourne. Other appearances include Signor La Rocca in Un giorno di regno for the Bilbao Opera and Basilio in The Barber of Seville, Roy Disney in The Perfect American and Bernardino in Benvenuto Cellini for English National Opera. His many roles for the Welsh National Opera have included Leporello in Don Giovanni, Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro, Escamillo in Carmen, Colline in La bohème and Sparafucile in Rigoletto.
