Biography | Roberts Zuika was interested in music from an early age. He carried his love for music during his education at Riga Teacher Training Institute (1930-1935). There he studied under Jekabs Vitolins. He later work as a teacher in Valmiera. During WWII Lieutenant Roberts Zuika of the 2nd Battalion of Riga Regiment had formed an army choir in Dundaga September 1944.
Since 1961, Michigan had been Roberts Zuikas home. Zuika was the head of choirs in Kalamazoo, Detroit and Grand Rapids. Latvian centre Garezers was considered by Zuika as his greatest accomplishment. Ever since the 60s, this centre has been regularly organizing all kinds of youth music camps, conductor training programmes, song days with choir concerts and different competitions. |
