Biography | The Rushley Singers, based in Hest Bank on the edge of Morecambe Bay, are an SATB Chamber Choir of around 25 voices who celebrated their twentieth anniversary in 2012. The choir began with a group of friends coming together to sing for fun and quickly found a role supporting local and national charities with their fund-raising. Over the years, repertoire has covered part-songs, spirituals and major works including Mozarts Vespers, Brahms Ein Deutches Requiem, Leonard Bernsteins Chichester Psalms and Carl Orffs Carmina Burana.
The emphasis is mainly on church music from the Tudor period to the present day. In December 2011 the singers led a choir of over 400 taking part in a Flash-mob Hallelujah Chorus in Lancaster city centre. The choir aims to present three concerts each year including the annual Christmas concert in Lancasters beautiful and iconic Ashton Memorial. They also make periodic appearances in Blackburn Cathedral to lead the worship.
The choir was founded by Rachael Lee, who remains the Musical Director. In recruiting, Rachael has paid particular attention to encouraging young singers so that the choir has almost always had one or two student members. The Rushley Singers are privileged to have Andy Plowman, an accomplished organist and pianist, as their accompanist. |
