Biography | Born in Gellilydan, North Wales, Gareth Roberts studied piano and clarinet at the Royal Academy of Music. After graduating he received a scholarship for a further three years of vocal study. On leaving the Academy he joined the BBC Singers where he appeared as soloist on numerous occasions, including the Last Night of the Proms (1980). Since leaving the BBC Singers he has worked with many professional groups in and around London, including The Ambrosian Singers, London Voices, Capital Voices, The Monteverdi Choir, The Nigel Brooks Singers and Sinfonietta Voices to name but a few.
In the early years he concentrated on the Oratorio repertoire but gradually moved towards opera during the past ten years. He now works regularly at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. His career as a singer has incorporated vocal backing/films/opera recordings and TV adverts.
He has a busy teaching studio and has given vocal masterclasses here in the UK and as far afield as Recife in Brazil combining that visit with a recital of British songs. Future plans include performances at the Royal Opera House, concerts at the Lincoln Centre in New York, and adjudicating at the National Eisteddfod of Wales. |
