Performance NotesSome of pop's favourite singers lead a concert tribute to Linda McCartney, who had died of breast cancer on 17 April 1998, organised by her friends Chrissie Hynde and Carla Lane. The all-star line-up contributed their voices to celebrate the woman who often photographed them as one of rock's chief photographers and who was a champion in the world of animal rights. The show was hosted by Eddie Izzard and the house band was The Pretenders.

Proceeds from the show went to some of Linda's favourite animal charities including an animal sanctuary run by comedy writer Carla Lane near Haywards Heath.

The event was directed and filmed by Kevin Godley and produced by Helen Terry, and was screened on BBC1 on 18 April 1999 and broadcast on BBC Radio 2 on 17 April 1999.

Chrissie Hynde said, "This is the show that Linda, myself and our friends talked about often. It was Carla Lane who suggested that we finally do it now, for Linda. We hope this show will reflect something of Linda's personality and her upbeat sense of humour."

George Michael made his first live appearance after two years.
