Performance Notes | "M Michel de Sicard, sometime virtuoso to the ex-Tsar of Russia, gave last night at the Albert Hall a violin recital which did not lack interest...One felt last night as if one were communing with the ghosts of a past era. The illusion was heightened by the November fog - punctual as it always was in the old days - with its suggestion of Dickensian firesides and by the hall in many ways typical of the Victorians - a greater race than the present critical generation is perhaps willing to admit. And, of course, the mist was not only outside, but in the hall, making everything unreal, unsubstantial." (The Daily Telegraph, 5 November 1920) |
