Performance Notes | The event was the first of four to be held at the Royal Albert Hall to raise funds in response to the 1953 'North Sea flood', which was a major flood caused by a heavy storm that occurred on the night of Saturday 31 January 1953 and morning of 1 February 1953. The floods struck the Netherlands, Belgium, England and Scotland, resulting in the deaths of 2,551 people, most of which occurred in the Netherlands. |
