"3,000 NURSES AT ALBERT HALL. NATIONAL BALL. Nurses from many parts of Britain and the Commonwealth deserted the wards last night for the Albert Hall. They were attending the first national ball for nurses. Many doctors were there. Guests included distinguished physicians and surgeons, among them Lord Evans, physician to the Queen; Sir Cecil Wakeley; and Sir John Peel, obstetrician to the Queen. Mrs Ingram, Chief Nursing Officer, Ministry of Health; Viscountess Davidson, Council fo Nurses War Memorial Fund, and the Countess of Brecknock, Lady Superintendent of the Order of St John, were also present. Nurse Stephanie Richardson, of St Mary Abbotts Hospital, Kensington, presented to Lord Evans a cheque for 500 guineas. This, the proceeds of the ball, was passed to Miss J Elise Gordon, editor of the Nursing Mirror, which organised it. It will go to the journal's fund for elderly and needy nurses."
