According to an article in The Daily Telegraph (12 February 1934) the production installed a proscenium which was believed to have been the largest in the world at 60 feet high and 70 feet broad. There was a cast of 1,200 and the conductor had a mechanism on his rostrum that he stamped on every beat of the music which lit a light behind the scenes for the unseen choir offstage to see. A 60 foot length or wire ran between a bridge and the stage floor and after an electrical detonation a flare of red flame would sweep downward to the stage to symbolise a ball of fire.
