Performance Notes | "It was standing room only at the Albert Hall last night, when 7,000 nurses from all parts of the country attended a mass meeting in protest against the rejection of their pay claim. The meeting organised by the staff side of the Nurses' and Midwives' Whitley Council, carried a resolution expressing confidence in the line of action which the staff side had adopted and urging the staff side to persist in their endeavours to achieve realistic and equitable salaries for the nursing profession." (The Times, 30 May 1962)
"...Thousands of nurses, many in uniform, filled the Albert Hall for a meeting on their salaries. Hundreds more could not get in, and remained outside, cheering. The meeting was called by the staff side of the council..." (The Daily Telegraph, 30 May 1962) |
