Performance Notes'Every seat in the large house was filled. The scarlet and gold of the massed bands of the Brigade of Guards, who completely filled the choir stalls, and uniforms of the allies brought striking patches of colour into surroundings otherwise austere, while the only too familiar blue worn by the wounded formed a living wall in the seats above the organ. The Duke of Buccleuch, Lord Michelham, Colonel Fred Gore and others had given up their boxes, many of whom were filled with wounded officers or men.
Miss Carrie Tubb and Lady Maud Warrender sang, the latter as an encore giving the American National song 'Marching through Georgia' of which the audience took up the chorus with considerable vigour.
The climax of the entertainment was reached with Julien's well-known 'British Army' Fantasia, during which the drums and files made a stirring entrance from the north door and marched through the centre of the stalls, while the audience remained standing.' (The Times, 15 April 1918)
