Performance NotesThe event was to mark the tenth annivrsary of the National Savings Movement, which was begun in 1916 with the establishment of the National Savings Committee and the introduction of the National Savings Certificate.

The Prince of Wales made a speech declaring that "Great Britain is a country in which voluntary causes have always flourished, and it is very desirable to foster the spirit of public service on which they are based, because that spirit is one of our best assets as a nation."

The meeting and concert were broadcast by the BBC from 19:00-19:50.

The event was originally scheduled for 14 May 1926 but was postponed to this date because of tthe United Kingdom General Strike (4-12 May 1926), which was called by the General Council of the Trades Union Congress in an unsuccessful attempt to force the British government to act to prevent wage reductions and worsening conditions for 1.2 million locked-out coal miners.
