| Performance Notes | The skill of the DJ was starting to be recognised during the early 1980s, leading to the first World DJ Mixing Championship Finals held in 1985, hosted by DMC (Disco Mix Club). Two years later it had grown sufficiently to come to the Royal Albert Hall, where the finals were held for the following three years.
The winner was DJ Chad Jackson (UK).
In 1988 the winner was DJ Cash Money (USA), real name Jerome Hewlett, who helped invent the transformer scratch. In 1998, turntable manufacturer Technics made Cash Money the first inductee into the DJ Hall of Fame.
