"A DIVA LIKE NO OTHER.
Nina Simone, the singer and pianist who made a much heralded appearance at the Albert Hall, is clearly a diva. The rapturous admiration of her publuc, the oroferred bouquets and the celebrated late arrival on stage are all evidence of that; but she is a diva like no other.
...Every pieve she played was of a different type from the one before. There was a long rolling insturmental blues, a couple of standards by Gershwin, and Rodgers and Hart, a Latin percussion items, a classical sounding piano feature that rose to a Chopinesque climax then died away, a folk song, a gospel-flavoured piece and a singalong number.
...Evert time she finished a tune she rose from the piano with a triumphant flourish of her arm, and each time she did so, the applause, which had been warm to start with, grew more ecstatic. Her fans are devout as only the fan of divas can be, and by the end of the evening there was foot-stamping, whooping, a standing ovation and two encores.
