Performance NotesA meeting to protest against the Japanese bombing of civilians.

"PRIMATE AND CHINA WAR.
PROTEST AT JAPAN'S ACTION.
LEAGUE'S ATTITUDE SUPPORTED.
More than 8,000 people were present at the Albert Hall last night to join in a protest against attacks by the Japanese forces in China on civilian non-combatants.
Traffic in Kensington High-street was held up for long intervals by the number of motor-cars arriving. Hundreds of people gathered outside in the vain hope of obtaining seats not taken by ticket-holders.
During an address by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Lang, who presided, a man wearing a dressing-gown over a lounge suit tried to address the meeting from the body of the hall and was removed. Several speakers were interrupted by interjectors each claiming his own way of ending the Sino-Japanese war. They were quickly silenced.
Rows of Chinese on one side of the hall listened intently to the speakers, but it was noticeable that they joined little in the clapping and applause..."
(The Daily Telegraph, 6 October 1937)

A mass meeting of 45,000 members of the Anglican Church in Japan was held as a counter-demonstration to this meeting.
