Performance Notes"POSTAL STRIKE BALLOT
DEMAND BY LONDON WORKERS
A resolution calling on the Executive Council of the Union of Post Office Workers 'to consider the advisability of taking a strike ballot, calling the prompt settlement of the demand for an immediate increase of 10s. per week for all grades, and for the translation of the 1914 figures into present day values,' was carried at a mass meeting of London postal workers held at the Albert Hall last evening.

Mr A Bailey (chairman of the London District Council) stated that telegrams had been received from 50 towns in the British Isles expressing agreement with the proposal. So far as the London district was concerned, they had conducted the negotiations with the Postmaster-General with more than sufficient patience, and would tolerate the delay no longer.

Mr J W Bowen, the general secretary, said that the inadequacy of the minima of all the scales was not admitted by the Department, and their latest proposals were an improvement in that direction by the provision of higher remuneration for men and women in the larger grades and for men about the normal marrying age. The figures were considered by the Executive Council to fall so far short of their claim that they could not recommend the acceptance of the scales in their present form, and instructions had been given to their representative to continue negotiation with a view to obtaining better terms before an agreement could be reached."
