Performance Notes | Soul legend Al Green returns to the Hall, following the recent release of his successful comeback album, joined by special guest Gabrielle.
American gospel and soul music singer Al Green received great acclaim in the 1970s. 30 years after bringing us classic hits 'Let's Stay Together' and 'Tired of Being Alone', he recently released 'Lay it Down', that promptly made its way up the charts. In 2004, Green was inducted into the Gospel Music Association's Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Also in 2004, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked him #65 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. He was honoured with a lifetime achievement award at the BET awards on 24 June 2008. 'Lay it Down' was released on 26 May 2008 and includes guest performances by John Legend, Corrine Bailey Rae and Anthony Hamilton.
Al Green is joined on stage by Gabrielle, a unique artist, with that instantly familiar shimmery voice and those tender-tough lyrics that make every song feel deeply intimate; and with her modest, unassuming personality that is rare for a star of her excellence. |
