Performance NotesNow in its ninth year, the Classical BRIT Awards, is a glittering gala event with many of the world's finest classical musicians performing under one roof.

The Classical BRIT Awards has become the annual jewel in the classical music crown, with special performances from the crème de la crème of the classical music world and attracting sell-out audiences and widespread media interest.

The Awards were established in 2000 to recognise the outstanding achievements of classical musicians and the appreciation of classical music in the UK and around the world.

The event was broadcast on ITV1 on 15 May 2008 at 22:35.

The night was not without controversy. The violinist Nigel Kennedy called organisers "old farts" after he was dropped over "artistic" differences.
