"WALK-OUT PROTEST AT PROM. Scores of concert-goers walked out and went to sit in the bars in protest against a new work by Peter Maxwell Davies, at the Albert Hall Promenade concert last night. The piece, "Worldes Blis," played by the BBC Symphony Orchestra, had specifically commissioned by the BBC and was conducted by the composer... Promenaders started to leave shortly after Mr Maxwell Davies's work began. A few minutes before the end there was a steady stream of "deserters" - a rare event at a Promenade concert. They said the music was "shapeless and bizarre."" (The Daily Telegraph, 29 August 1969) |
