Performance NotesThe event was an award ceremony to all the UK 'pacemakers and record breakers' in the music industry in 1964 and was organised by the Daily Mirror newspaper to celebrate reaching record sales in the western world of five million copies per day.

The Beatles attended the event but did not perform. They were interviewed by Des O'Connor and waved to the audience from one of the boxes in the auditorium, and then were invited for drinks in the Prince of Wales Room with the Daily Mirror's Directors.
