Performance NotesAn Epsom doctor, Michael Bialoguski, unable to secure any regular conducting engagements in the UK, spent most of his life-savings (£2,000) on hiring the Hall and the New Philharmonia Orchestra for this concert. Aside from a "tentaive performance" during the first piece, The Times (30 April 1969) judged that "no holes could be picked in the rest of the programme". Bialoguski, 52, was a Polish-born double agent who played a leading part in the defection to Australia in 1954 of the Soviet spy Colonel Vladimir Petrov.
